Come with your infant, toddler and/or preschooler to a place where there are wonderful sounds, interesting movements, rhythmic instruments to play, silly things to do, and music you and your child will love! Music Together classes build on your child's natural enthusiasm for music and movement. Children LOVE Music Together!
Up to twelve children and their parent or primary caregiver meet once a week for a 45 minute class. Children birth through four years of age along with the adults who love them come together to sing and dance and a community families enjoying music is formed. The goal of the class is to create an environment where everyone can join in and have fun. There is no pressure for a perfect performance. Young children learn best and flourish in an environment where parent modeling and playful fun are the teachers. There are three ten-weeek semesters each year; winter, spring and fall. There is a new song collection every semester for three years, featuring great arrangements of original and traditional songs in a wide variety of tonalities, meters and cultural styles. You and your child will experince chants, finger plays, dances, creative movement and enjoy playing with rhythmic instruments and props. The music goes home with you in the form of an illustrated songbook and two CD's.
We believe that music is as much a basic life skill as walking and talking. All children can learn to sing in tune, keep a beat, and participate in music-making with joy and confidence, provided their early environment supports such learning. The instruction is informal; children participate as actively or passivley as they choose and are free to do so according to their developmental level. The active participation of parents and/or caregivers is essential in class. Young children are biologically "wired" to learn best from those with whom they have formed a bond of attachment. No media source can reproduce this level of effect. Parents are shown ways to stimulate their child’s music development regardless of their own musical background. The class experience, reinforced by parent involvement stimulates learning through play which is a young child's natural way to learn. This program is based on early childhood development research, and is designed to allow your child to flourish!
Music Together began as an educational project of the Center for Music and Young Children and was originally offered to the public in 1987. It pioneered the concept of a research-based, developmentally appropriate early childhood music curriculum that strongly emphasizes and facilitates adult involvement. The Music Together approach develops every child's birthright of basic music competence by allowing children to actually experience music rather than be formally taught the concepts of music.
Join us and we'll help you provide your child with the basic musical skills needed to enjoy school and social musical activities, and to study an instrument later on should he or she choose to do so.
